Members of the Cymbopogon genus are tropical grasses, mostly perennials. Many types of lemongrass are used in the distillation of lemongrass oil, the main ones being C. citratus, C. flexuosus, and C. martini. The pseudostems (bases of the leaves) are what are typically used in the distillation of essential oils.
