Touch Nature was originally set up in Nepal in 2001, employing primarily single mothers as well as providing a crèche and childcare facility for their children. However, due to the political situation in Nepal and some unavoidable circumstances, we relocated to Kolkata, India.

With Kolkata housing one of Asia’s largest red light districts, we decided that our skills and experiences could best be put to use by helping the struggling women in Kolkata. Hence, in 2012, Touch Nature India was born.

Josephine Tan, the founder of Touch Nature, first fell in love with handmade soaps back in the year 2000. At that time, she had no idea about handmade soaps and was helping a group of single mothers who were in need of jobs with a sewing project. The group of ladies sewed handicraft items and Josephine helped them to sell, in order that they are able to earn enough money for supporting their children.

Josephine was not keen at all when a man name Joe came to visit their workshop from the States and immediately suggested that she should try to make handmade soaps. However, he told her that his wife was running a handmade soap company called Jojo Blessing and that perhaps after learning to make soaps, she would be able to provide more jobs for the needy single mothers.

Unable to continue sewing because of its eye straining and time consuming labor, Josephine decided to give soap making a try and was surprised when it turned out to be more successful than sewing. The process of making soaps enabled her to employ and help more single mothers. Higher employment meant higher number of lives saved, and that was exactly what Josephine did.

Today, Touch Nature company not only provides employment to struggling women, but also brings "Light Into The Darkness" through their spa soaps, candles and love.

At Touch Nature, we provide victims of human trafficking in Kolkata with the opportunity to leave the sex trade with confidence and engage in dignified labour.

We train and equip our staff with the necessary skills to produce quality soap and aromatherapy products of natural goodness that are beneficial to both your well being and the environment. Staff members also have the opportunity to receive training for managerial and administrative positions.

The main line of products made by our staff are handmade soaps and handmade candles. These are good for the health and environment. All our soaps give a luxurious lather that gives the user a spa like experience that cleanses deeply. Our popular soaps include goat milk and lavender. Our candles are aroma therapeutic in nature and includes scents like citronella and vanilla.

Our products are made of natural vegetable oils, essential oils and herbs. Essential Oils which are extracts from flowers, herbs and plants have therapeutic and healing properties. Some of the soaps are added with natural color such as Henna, Rantanjot, Annato, Moringa and Tumeric which have added benefits to the skin. They are Natural Handmade Soap, Free of SLS, SLES, Parabens and carinogenic ingredients. These soaps are 100% bio-degradable and detoxifying. What is amazing about these soaps are, they are made by women who have been rescued from Kolkata red light area. Almost all the women are tricked and trafficked into the flesh trade. Most of them have been in bondage until they get a new life to work in Touch Nature. We are also reaching out to their next generation, training and empowering to take ownership of this social enterprise.

Our manufacturing process is GMP certified under Drugs and Cosmetics Act of India. This means our manufacturing process follow WHO guidelines on which Indian GMP is based.
